However, at the end of 2017, for the first time Facebook annual results suddenly left many analysts uncertain about the future of the social network because something unexpected happened: active users started to diminish in the US, the first and most profitable market. Facebook, the platform, has been the virtual place to be for many people, while Facebook, the Company, has been driving optimism among technology markets that had recovered from the net bubble just a few years before Mark Zuckerberg launched the first version of the social network in 2004. Throughout the past decade Facebook has continuously recorded great acceptance and trust of analysts, investors and simple users all over the western world.
I am a well known complainer, I think financial quarterly reports are thermometers that should be deeply investigated and compared before formulating judgements on a company health, good or bad.
I work with numbers, therefore, even if the aim of this unconventional research is to question peoples feelings, I will try to keep my analysis with its feet on the quantitative ground. Numbers don’t lie, people who show them often do.
